Growing years

A piece from the New York Times (with thanks to the alert reader who sent me the link) about middle childhood.  It’s worth the read if for nothing more than the bigger cultural picture, but there’s also the reminder and more information (at least than I’ve had) about the complex chemical realities of growing… up?

After I read the piece, I followed the link to readers’ posts of quotes that best capture the grade-school years for them. There are some nice ones there, and I was reminded of Billy Collins’ poem On Turning Ten, in his Sailing Alone Around the Room.
