Liberating math

Conrad Wolfram’s talk on transforming math education makes a case for letting math be liberated from calculation, even (especially?) in education.  He points out that we continue to teach math as though we’re tied to calculating by hand, and invites us to turn our attention to how we can apply the real capacities of our minds to the practical potential of math (the way computers can’t), rather than wasting time and brain power on calculations (as computers can).
